I really really wanted to love this movie.
Really.
But I didn't.
Oh the visuals are amazing, the storyline is interesting, but it just didn't grab me and hold my interest.
I totally expected to enjoy it. I do love Guillermo Del Toro's work and even now I can't bring myself to find fault with the movie as such, it just left me feeling meh. On the surface I was sure to enjoy it - fantasy at its best. But, meh.
Maybe I had built it up in my mind to be spectacular. Maybe I should have seen it at the cinema as I originally intended. Maybe it was just that Captain Vidal ruined the entire experience for me. I don't know. I was certainly in the mood for that type of film, so it wasn't that that was affecting me.
I am really quite puzzled by my response.
Shish, on the other hand, enjoyed it.

4 people easily amused:
Oh NO! Tell me it's not so
Captain Vidal was rather hateful and the violence disturbing.
But I did love it.
I'm still on the waiting list for it from the library. I have mixed feelings about it having seen some trailers so I'm not rushing out to pay to rent the DVD.
Some things are best free. *smile*
I had never heard of Guillermo Del Toro and got the DVD on the recommendation of a friend.I was absolutely blown away. 10/10 for me.
Well, Hellboy was great, and I quite liked Blade II (but I do have a vampire movie obsession), Mimic creeped me out and I have a vague recollection of seeing Cronos and liking it. So I had pretty high expectations.
But I still maintain that visually, it was bloody fantastic.
